KING LASIK ANSWER THE QUESTION, IS LASIK PAINFUL?

Is LASIK PainfulBefore pursuing LASIK vision correction surgery, you most likely want to know whether the procedure is painful. The LASIK surgeons at King LASIK would like you to know that, no, the procedure is not typically painful. Nonetheless, the King LASIK surgeons discuss what you can expect on the day of your LASIK procedure as well as what the recovery period is like, so you feel confident in your decision to pursue LASIK surgery.

What to Expect on the Day of Your Procedure

LASIK surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. It is quick: It only takes the surgeon about 15 minutes to complete the procedure on both eyes. On the day of your procedure, you will spend a few hours at our office, but most of that time is used to prepare you for surgery and to allow you enough time to recover after surgery. After your procedure, you will be escorted into a recovery room, so you can recuperate for a short while. After you have rested for a bit, the ophthalmologist examines your eyes one last time before releasing you into the care of a responsible adult who can take you home to finish your recovery.

How We Ensure Your Comfort

Most patients are given a mild oral sedative about 30 minutes before the start of the LASIK procedure, so they feel at ease for the duration of surgery. Before starting LASIK surgery, the surgeon administers topical anesthesia in the form of eye drops. This helps to ensure you do not experience any pain during surgery. You may feel pressure on your eye during certain parts of the procedure, but, again, you should not feel pain.

Recovering From LASIK Surgery

The recovery period following LASIK surgery is also relatively fast. Within 24 to 48 hours of surgery, most patients experience a dramatic improvement in their eyesight. During the first day or two after the procedure, however, you may experience an itching sensation in your eyes or other temporary discomfort. Your laser eye surgeon may give you lubricating eye drops in addition to antibiotic eye drops to help relieve any minor discomfort.

Imagine having freedom from your daily dependence on prescription eyewear. This can be a reality with LASIK surgery!
