LASIK SURGERY RECOVERY PROCESS

Recovery Process After LASIK Surgery
The recovery after LASIK surgery is defined more by restrictions than by discomfort. Itā€™s important to give your body a chance to rest so it can heal more effectively. Expect to have some discomfort at first, including tearing and blurred vision. Usually, vision will improve within the first 24 hours following your surgery.

Immediately Following Surgery, Patients Should Avoid:

  • Driving (have a friend take you home after the procedure!)
  • Rubbing their eyes
  • Sports and vigorous activity

Although swimming and hot tub use should be avoided, many patients may opt for taking baths rather than showers during recovery, since it is much easier to shield the eyes in a bath. It is especially important to avoid getting soap or shampoo in your eyes.

Ease Into Your Routine

Following your LASIK surgery, you shouldnā€™t rush back into your daily grind too quickly. Take a few days off from work or school to rest and recover. You should also take extra precautions to protect your eyes from the sun and other bright lights. Computer work and other activities, which may cause eye strain, should also be avoided until youā€™re more fully healed.

Post-Op Visits

Itā€™s critical to attend all your post-operative visits as part of the recovery process following LASIK surgery. These allow the surgeon to evaluate your healing and determine whether any further follow-up may be needed. Most surgeons require an immediate appointment the next day, and may schedule regular check-ups over the following several months.
